The NIGERIA Basketball Federation has insisted that its 2019 constitution would be used in conducting the federation’s election on September 30.
It had earlier been reported that the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development said the NBBF and five other federations who have their constitutions ratified by their international bodies would use them for the September 30 elections, while other federations would use the sports ministry’s guidelines.
However, President of the Basketball Referees’ Council in Nigeria, TUNDE POPOOLA, said the body does not know of any ratified NBBF constitution, as they were not carried along in the process.
POPOOLA spoke during a meeting of a group called Nigeria Basketball Vanguard.
Reacting to POPOOLA’s claim, Caretaker Chairman of the NBBF, MUSA AHMADU-KIDA, in a statement, which was made available to newsmen insisted that the 2019 constitution was ratified by the relevant authorities and it would be used in conducting the elections.
The statement also said plans were in place to convey an Extraordinary Congress to ratify electoral timeline and the composition of the electoral and appeals committees.
