Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has been officially named the deputy governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

she said, “Dear Lagosians it is important to share with you my decision to venture into what I consider a much bigger facet to serve humanity. I am convinced it is right to hear from me directly. With my main career in the entertainment industry spanning over 25 years and the God-given grace to achieve remarkable success, I have the privilege to work with different people.”

She revealed that she chose to accept the role to help women while also improving the well-being of youths and the girl child.

“I saw it as an opportunity to help liberate and improve the wellbeing of our people, particularly the deprived youth, women, and the girl child.”

She continued, “My decision is not just to accept this huge responsibility but to also work tirelessly and complement Jandor’s burning desire to see our dear Lagos live up to its full potential.”

Last week, PDP named the actress as one of its nominees for deputy governor in the 2023 general elections.

According to the spokesman for the governorship candidate, the actress is one of the five persons nominated as Olajide Adediran’s running mate.

He said, “Funke Akindele hasn’t been confirmed as Jandor’s running mate. Funke is one of the five nominees to be Jandor’s running mate.”

“She was nominated alongside four other people, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo, and [Rasheed] Teslim-Balogun. Jandor has not named anyone as his running mate yet.”

Recall that in June, the singer’s estranged husband, JJC Skillz announced their separation

In a post on Instagram, he revealed that they had been facing marital troubles for two years and living apart for three months.

“Dear friends and family I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted we shared many things together and have created 2 beautiful children. The last two years have been challenging. The last two years have been challenging for us. I know I have tried my best to fix things but I believe it is beyond repair now. 3 months ago and at Funkes insistence.”

“I moved out of the house and apart from AMVCA have not been able to get Funke to sit down in an amicable matter to discuss the future of our relationship. I’m making this announcement so that the public is clear that we both are pursuing separate lives. We still have issues that need to be addressed such as custody and well-being of our children which is paramount as well as the business interests which need to be disentangled but I have no doubt that these will be resolved one way or the other.”
